Dave LaMattina and Chad Walker travel the world in search of extraordinary stories. Since founding Copper Pot Pictures in 2007, the duo has produced and directed award-winning films and series across all major platforms.

Their breakthrough feature, I AM BIG BIRD (Tribeca)—a moving documentary about Caroll Spinney, the heart and soul behind Sesame Street’s Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch for 50 years—played to sold-out theaters nationwide and acclaimed international festivals. Its breakout success paved the way for THE ZOO, their hit docuseries set at the Bronx Zoo (now streaming on HBOMax), which instantly spawned two hit spinoffs: THE ZOO: SAN DIEGO and THE AQUARIUM.

Copper Pot’s portfolio is as diverse as the subjects they capture. In WE MUST GO (Gravitas), they embedded with the Egyptian National Football Team to view the Arab Spring through the lens of soccer. For Sports Illustrated, they created EXPLORING PLANET FUTBOL, a globe-trotting travelogue spanning Africa to amplify unheard voices. In DON BLUTH: SOMEWHERE OUT THERE, they wove intimate, fresh interviews with hundreds of hours of archival home video, painting a compelling portrait of an iconic filmmaker confronting his own ego in the balancing act between commercial success and artistic integrity.

Renowned for leveraging archival footage to make nostalgia feel deeply emotional and fiercely relevant, the pair’s signature style shines in SUMMER OF 94—their 1994 World Cup documentary for Stand Together and Imagine Entertainment. After premiering at SXSW, the film served as a centerpiece of Fox’s 2026 World Cup coverage. Up next is THE ANIMAL SANCTUARY, a dynamic wildlife series set at Tasmania’s Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, launching on Paramount Australia ahead of its global rollout.

Whether it is planning an international shoot in hostile conditions, gaining access to A-list talent or working with global institutions like Sesame Workshop or the Wildlife Conservation Society, Dave embraces impossible challenges.  He is responsible for turning Copper Pot's ideas into reality.  On the freelance side of the business, Dave is the point for clients, working closely with them to make sure that their needs are met creatively and practically. He considers Exploring Planet Futbol his proudest producing achievement as it required executing shoots in five African countries on opposite ends of the continent in just three weeks.
