ABOUT COPPER POT PICTURES
Dave LaMattina and Chad Walker travel the world searching for stories. Since founding Copper Pot Pictures in 2007, the pair have produced and directed award-winning films and series on all platforms. I AM BIG BIRD (Tribeca), their documentary about Caroll Spinney, who was Sesame Street’s Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch for 50 years, played to sold out crowds in theaters across the country and festivals around the world. Following their success with the film, the pair created THE ZOO, a docuseries set at the Bronx Zoo. The show quickly became Animal Planet’s most-watched new series in over two years. Its instant popularity spawned two spinoffs: THE ZOO: SAN DIEGO and THE AQUARIUM. Recently, the franchise’s audience grew even more when the show moved to Max, where it prominently featured as part of the streamer’s launch campaign.
Their work is as diverse as the characters and stories it features. In WE MUST GO (Gravitas), their documentary using soccer as a lens to view the Arab Spring, they embedded with the Egyptian National Football Team. For THE GREAT MOTHER (Starz), their profile of a controversial activist, they gained access to Miami’s undocumented immigrant community to bring their struggles to light. And in EXPLORING PLANET FUTBOL, a globe-trotting soccer travelogue they created for Sports Illustrated, they journeyed from one end of Africa to the next to amplify unheard voices.
Both are represented by IAG.
The pair founded the company in 2008 alongside Clay Frost.
DAVE LAMATTINA
Producer/Director
Whether it is planning an international shoot in hostile conditions, gaining access to A-list talent or working with global institutions like Sesame Workshop or the Wildlife Conservation Society, Dave embraces impossible challenges. He is responsible for turning Copper Pot's ideas into reality. On the freelance side of the business, Dave is the point for clients, working closely with them to make sure that their needs are met creatively and practically. He considers Exploring Planet Futbol his proudest producing achievement as it required executing shoots in five African countries on opposite ends of the continent in just three weeks.
CHAD WALKER
Director/Editor
Chad comes to Copper Pot with a background in editing. He began cutting documentaries in Boston for public TV before joining the editorial team at Blue Sky Studios where he worked on the Ice Age franchise, Rio 1 & 2 and Epic. Even as a director, Chad has kept his love of editing alive, cutting all of Copper Pot's films and working with other directors to bring their visions to life, as he did on Eddie, a doc for Lionsgate about basketball coach Eddie Sutton.
